Gates Open

Gates open early, at 8:00 a.m. ET, on both Kentucky Derby day and Kentucky Oaks day.

  • Opening Night: Gates open at 5 PM
  • Champions Day & April 29th: Gates open at 11:00 AM
  • Thurby: Gates open at 11:00 AM

Gate Locations

Kentucky Derby guests can enter through the Paddock, Clubhouse or Infield Gate. See the Maps & Directions page for a map of those gate locations.  On other days of Derby Week enter through the Paddock or Clubhouse gates.

Note that only General Admission tickets may enter through the Infield Gate.

Gate Entry Process

Step 1: Visit a patron entry location located at the Paddock, Clubhouse, or Infield Gate.

General Admission tickets may enter any gate. General Admission ticket holders bringing chairs must enter at the Infield gate.

Only General Admission tickets will be allowed entry through the Infield Gate.

Step 2: Enter bag check and proceed through the security screening area.

Step 3: Have your ticket or mobile device out and ready to be scanned at a turnstile or by an attendant.

Step 4: Proceed through the turnstiles.

Step 5: Visit the appropriate wristband location to re-scan your ticket or mobile device.  An attendant will provide an access wristband, which you will need to access your seating location.

Step 6: Enjoy your day at Churchill Downs

Will Call

There is NO WILL CALL on Kentucky Derby or Kentucky Oaks days.  Click Here to view Will Call hours for Derby Week.

No Re-Entry Policy

Re-entry is not allowed after exiting the facility on any day of Derby Week.  Guests are not permitted to leave Churchill Downs and return on the same ticket. Re-admittance will only be allowed in case of an emergency.
